Recognizing and Responding to Scams
Whether you work at a bank, were scammed yourself, or you are trying to help someone who was.
2 hour self-paced training · Starts at $15/month · Printable workbook included
Scams do not work because people are careless. They work because they are built to hit the nervous system faster than the thinking brain can catch up. Once that happens the usual advice stops landing, and telling someone to just walk away often pushes them further in.
This course covers what is actually happening in that moment, and what to do about it. It is the same training I have delivered to banks and law enforcement, built from fifteen years of working real cases. It works the same whether you are the one who got caught, the one trying to help, or the one who sees it happen across a counter.
If you were scammed. You are probably looking for an explanation that does not end in "I should have known better." That explanation is in the chapter on the nervous system. Most people finish it and stop blaming themselves, which is usually what stands between them and doing something useful next.
If someone you love was scammed. The hardest part is that the person you are trying to help often does not want help yet. The intervention chapter is built for that conversation: what to say, what makes people dig in harder, and how to adjust it depending on whether you are talking to your teenager or your father.
If this is your job. The teller at the window, the rep on the fraud line, the advocate on the phone with someone who is scared and will not say why. You will finish with a script and a set of tools you can use in the moment, and a way to respond that keeps the person talking instead of shutting down.
